There has been a lot of talk about a war on women bandied about as if the concept of women's rights is some sort of political football. It is obvious that both the GOP and the Democrats are campaigning hard for women and they should because they need us more than we need them.
we still outnumber men (despite our protected "minority" class label) last time I checked but I think that both parties miss the mark by pigeonholing women.

First of all we women are distinct individuals not just some sort of interest group or demographic. We are the primary consumers in the marketplace making over 85% of the consumer purchases . We head households and are quite familiar with capitalism, budgeting and practical economics. All this misguided & obvious pandering to us by politicians on our so-called "womens' issues" like reproductive rights, sexual harrassment, & violence towards women is painfully clumsy at best and an ignorant stereotype at worst.
Second we aren't victims of male dominated society. I can recognize that women have been discriminated against historically, but as a woman living in this country I can't help but notice that we routinely recognize and celebrate specific individual women for their achievements. Women are achieving at all levels, in education, business, and much more. Women have overcome so much adversity that I find it offensive and sexist to be labeled as a victim because it implies that I am dependent on others rather than empowered and self-sufficient.
Third I think women (& men too) have thrived in the US because of their freedom to make their own choices or our rugged (or not so rugged) individualism. We benefit from the diversity and competition individuals provide and we like the right to live life our own way. Turns out women like their rights just as much as men-now that's equality! Just try telling a woman what to do, see how far it gets you.
